Carbon Black: A Key Ingredient in Industrial Compounds

Learn how we use carbon black to improve the strength, durability, and safety of internal compounds and ensure superior industrial hoses.

The role of carbon black in rubber compounds

The carbon black is obtained from the controlled combustion of hydrocarbons in oxygen-poor environments. These are particles of very pure carbon, tiny and with a high specific surface area, which become an essential component in the production of rubber compounds for industrial applications.

In our dedicated department, we produce the compounds we use to make our hoses internally. This choice allows us to complete control of the production process, from the selection of raw materials to the finished product. The result? Superior quality hoses, compliant with high standards of safety and performance.

It is important to emphasize that carbon black is only used in some of our rubber mixes, where it is essential to ensure greater resistance, durability and specific electrical properties.

Why is carbon black so important?

The addition of carbon black transforms the rubber from a brittle material into a strong and durable compound. The main benefits include:

  • Greater abrasion resistance
  • Superior durability over time
  • Better electrical properties, with conductive or antistatic compounds
  • UV protection
  • Heat dissipation, which reduces the risk of thermal degradation
  • The characteristic black color, now standard for tires and hoses

An anecdote from the history of tires

In the 1930s and 1960s, tires with white side bands (whitewall) tires were considered a symbol of elegance and luxury. At the time, however, natural rubber was white, brittle, and subject to rapid wear. To improve durability and safety, carbon black was added to the compound, making the tires much more resistant and completely black.

This step was not only an aesthetic choice, but a real technological revolution: the black tires guaranteed greater resistance, protection from external agents and better performance. Over time, whitewalls remained a vintage detail, while all-black tires became the global standard for performance and maintenance.

Similarly, in our industrial hoses, the use of carbon black in specific compounds allows us to offer reliable, safe, and durable products. By producing rubber compounds in-house, we can be sure that each hose is the result of a process highly controlled and optimized, a guarantee of constant quality for our customers.

Much more than a pigment

The carbon black It is much more than a pigment: it is a strategic element that ensures resistance, safety and durability to rubber compounds. In our compound department, we use it with precision in targeted applications, maintaining full control over every production phase. This approach allows us to guarantee superior quality industrial hoses, safe and compliant with the highest standards.
